You can finally binge through your favorite television shows without taking up too much of your time! Netflix also implemented speed controls that allow the user to adjust the speed at which they can play their video. In this article we’ll cover how the Netflix app will speed up or slow down your video.

Netflix has been trying out a new panel that will allow users to adjust their content’s playback speed. That’s very close to what’s already on YouTube. The new panel will only be available in the playback frame, meaning the display speed can not be pre-set. During playback you can adjust the speed at any point but the settings do not automatically apply to the next movie you watch.
In December 2019, a select few testers released the new playback controls for the first time. We ‘re seeing a lot of people having new settings now though.
What are the prerequisites for the new function?
The new playback panel is currently only available on Android devices with the Netflix app. While the feature will certainly also come to iOS devices, they ‘re still to find out when. Whereas, no mention is made of whether this replay feature would make its way into Netflix’s online version.
The new replay feature for downloaded content played in the Netflix app is also available. And even though you’re offline you can pick your video up!
How to change playback speed on Netflix?
As already mentioned, the new playback panel can only be reached in the playback tab. This means you have to start watching the content first, using the new environment. Netflix has introduced this to discourage users from releasing new titles by accident at the wrong pace.
To alter Netflix’s playback speed, launch the Netflix app on your Android phone then pick a title to watch.
The settings will show up on the bottom panel’s left side. Simply tap on the screen when in a video to display the settings, then press the ‘Speed’ button at the left bottom.

Select the speed that you would like the video to continue in. The video will begin playing at the newly selected speed. To speed up the video select either 1.25x or 1.5x from the menu.

You can also slow down the video by selecting either 0.5x or 0.75x from the same menu.

What speeds can you choose from?
Currently, there are five speeds (normal + four alternatives) that you can choose from to view content on Netflix; two slower speeds and two faster speeds. Here are the speeds that the new playback setting offers.
- 0.5x
- 0.75x
- 1x (Normal speed)
- 1.25x
- 1.5x
The new playback speeds have been optimized to prevent audio distortion, so you won’t be listening to Alvin and the Chipmunks do a rendition of Schitt’s Creek.
Reasons Why don’t I have the new settings yet?
Although it looks like Netflix is currently rolling out the new feature (as of August 2nd, 2020), it will take a few days for it to be available all over the country. The only thing you can do right now is wait for the latest update to come.
Can I play Netflix on 2X?
Sorry, you can’t. Not yet, anyway. Unlike YouTube, Netflix does not let you speed up your video all the way up to 2x.
