Although the biggest draw when it comes to personal computing is PCs and Macs, handheld devices such as iPads and tablets have steadily crept their way to the top. In addition to complex additions that help boost the workflow, Apple’s latest iPad provides unmatched processing power. You may even have an Apple Pencil if you are someone who uses an iPad for your computing needs.
The Apple Pencil accompanies your iPad with a great peripheral that helps you to mark up, annotate, sketch, and more on your computer. The Apple Pencil comes with an inbuilt battery that needs to be recharged frequently, whether it’s the first generation or the new edition, so how do you know when your Apple Pencil is charging? Let’s explore it!
How to check the battery status of Apple Pencil
Testing your Apple pencil’s current charge level as well as battery status allows you to first evaluate its model. This is such a straightforward method. If your Apple Pencil comes with a lightning plug, it is a first-generation model, and it is a second-generation model that charges wirelessly if your pencil does not have any ports. Once the model of your Apple Pencil has been established, simply follow one of the corresponding guides below.
Check the battery status of Apple Pencil Gen 1

Remove the cap from your apple pencil and attach it to your iPad with the lightning port.
Now open your iPad and swipe your home screen to the right. Now you’re going to see ‘View Today”.
If you already have a battery widget in place, this widget will show the current charging status and the charging level of your Apple Pencil. If you do not have this widget, you can easily add it to the Today view by following the guide below.
Note: If you are using a power adapter to charge your Apple Pencil, then there is no way for you to currently check the charge status. To check the current charging status of the pencil in your battery widget today, you will need to finish charging the pencil and then pair it with your iPad.

Note: Before continuing with this guide, make sure that Bluetooth is activated for your iPad and that the Pencil has been paired with it.

Unlock your iPad Pro (3rd gen or higher) and magnetically mount the Apple Pencil to the appliance. You should get a tiny notification at the top showing the latest charge amount on your Apple Pencil once connected. This is also an indicator that your iPad is actually charging your pencil wirelessly.
You can now navigate to today’s battery widget to keep an eye on your Apple Pencil’s charge level. In this widget, you can see a charging indicator as well. If the battery widget is not in your view today, simply use the guide below to add it to your computer.
