If you happen to be one of the many, many people who are not especially fond of Reels, however, you would be happy to see the solutions mentioned below. So, let ‘s look at how to reduce the exposure to Instagram Reels without further ado.
Can you get rid of Instagram Reels officially?
Instagram Explore is the perfect location to get to know the people in your own bubble. You will meet interesting writers, photographers, life coaches and even watch, if you like, some amusing videos. For better or worse, however, the Explore tab (also called Discover tab) has now also become the hotspot for Reels being used to advertise the new offering from Instagram.
Sadly, there’s no way you can get rid of Reels, officially, but there’s at least one option below that works well for Android users. But if you’re really that desperate, you may be able to use a Laptop or web device to search Instagram.com, which is still free of Instagram Reels at the time of writing.
In other news, Instagram has rolled out Instagram Reels in India as a separate page. Instagram has made India the first country to get a separate Reels tab due to the innovation that it’s seen in the world. They have also confirmed, however, that the feature will also be tested in other nations, and should be rolled out sooner than later.
How to turn off Instagram reels
Instagram Reels is the new “innovation” on the site and is doing everything possible to make it famous. But there’s no official way to toggle off Instagram Reels as we’ve mentioned above. If you’re on Linux, though, you may be able to go back to an earlier version of the app — before Reels was launched — and that should do the trick.
Here is a package by APK Mirror from July 19th which should help you get up and running. Now, what you need to do is turn Google Play off auto-update. To do this, go first to the Google Play Store, search for “Instagram,” then tap the vertical ellipsis at the top-right corner on the Instagram tab.
Finally, uncheck ‘Enable auto-update.’
How to remove your own Reel?
If you’re not impressed with a Reel you’ve made or it’s all of a sudden become meaningless, there’s a choice to take it away for good. When deleted, your Reel will not appear on Instagram Explore, and will not have the ability to be one of the clips featured.
First, log in to your Instagram account using the mobile app to delete a Reel, then go to the Reels page.
Then, tap on the Reel you want to delete. Once there, tap on the vertical ellipsis button.
Now, tap on ‘Delete.’
And confirm it by tapping ‘Delete’ again.
That’s it! Your Reel would cease to exist on Instagram.
How to hide Reels of a particular type?
Coming across similar, annoying Reels? You can hide them with a couple of taps.
Log in to your Instagram account and go to the Explore tab.
Now, tap on the video you wish to hide. Tap on the vertical ellipsis button.
Now, hit ‘Hide.’
After you do, you’ll get a prompt saying “This post has been hidden. We’ll show fewer posts like this from now on.”
You could undo the action by tapping ‘Undo.’
