WhatsApp is being used so universally now that a time when it wasn’t around is hard to remember. The instant messaging app allows you to share media, and even video call from anywhere in the world to your friends and family. While you’re usually used to using a sim card to set up WhatsApp, did you know there’s a way to do this without one? We’ll cover how to verify your WhatsApp account in this article when you don’t have a sim card.
Why use WhatsApp without a sim card?
Well, there’s plenty of reasons you might want to set up an extra WhatsApp account. Your whatsApp account, as you know, is tied to your phone number. That means users can view your number immediately whenever you send a message to the app. There’s no way whatsApp can hide your phone number. That’s one big reason why users without a sim card might want to create an account.
You are probably annoyed by contact messages about sales from random websites and what not. That’s because when you signed up those websites asked for your phone number. Now they will send you irritating messages over and over again. But what if you took a fake number to sign up? One that’s not going to be traced to you, and you don’t need to have access!
Another reason to use WhatsApp without a sim card is if you are lying around with an old phone. You don’t want to get the phone a new sim card just to be able to use it for text on WhatsApp; and WhatsApp won’t let you create a sim card account. It is here that this tutorial comes in! You can install WhatsApp which does not have sim cards in it on your old devices.
How to verify WhatsApp without a sim card
Although setting up a WhatsApp account is simple, the primary part is the code of verification. WhatsApp will give you a verification code to your phone number via SMS. To complete your account setup you need to enter the code into the app. Unfortunately, a number that is already registered with WhatsApp can not be used. This means you need to be able to get the verification text on a different number. To set up an alternate number and build a WhatsApp account, follow this guidance below.
Step 1: Install the Telos app
The first thing you need to do is to install the Telos app (Android | iOS) to generate an alternative phone number. There are a number of apps available online, but this is one that we like. Note: It doesn’t matter which device you install the app on. All you need is the verification code that will be sent through the app.
Start the Telos app to your computer. To get started you’ll need to build an account. You can use your email address to build an account if you do not want to use your number. If you do that, you’ll need to offer access to the app to make and manage phone calls.
Step 2: Create an alternative number
Once you’ve built your Telos account you can go ahead and select a country from which you’d like the number. It doesn’t matter which one you choose. Select U.S. since it has SMS, Voice Calls, and Voicemail for better performance.
Now enter any U.S. area code and hit ‘Search’.
It is time to pick your number! Telos will generate a list of numbers to choose from. Select the one you like, then go ahead and hit ‘Continue’.
Telos is offering a 3-day trial for free. This can be cancelled any time. Note: You don’t have to keep the number running to use it on WhatsApp.
That’s it! You now have a functioning alternative number!
Step 3: Set up WhatsApp
Now the essential part is this. Modify the country to match your new number. The new alternative number is then inserted into WhatsApp. When done , click ‘Next’ at the bottom.
Now you need to wait till WhatsApp sends you an SMS on the alternative number. Your message will be delivered in the Telos app. Input the code you receive into WhatsApp.
That’s it! Now go ahead and set up your profile picture and name on WhatsApp.
Do you need to keep a number active to use WhatsApp?
No, you just can’t! If your account is checked, at any stage you can go ahead and cancel your subscription. WhatsApp needn’t have an active number to deal with. At the beginning you just need the number to validate your account.
Can you make calls on WhatsApp even if the number is not active?
Yeah, you should! WhatsApp will allow you to make calls using the alternative number, even if that number is not active any more. That is because the internet is used by WhatsApp to position calls and not mobile networks.
The number displayed when you call will still be the alternative number that you used to set up your account.
What if I delete my WhatsApp app by mistake?
Alas, WhatsApp needs verification any time you install it. So if you uninstalled your alternate number with the app, there’s no way to get the account back. If you have a subscription to still keep the number available, of course. If you have the number active, simply follow the above method via the Telos app to obtain a verification code on that number.
If you have terminated your subscription to the number, however, you won’t be able to get back the account. So watch out when uninstalling your files!
