Steps to Create a FaceTime link in Calendar on iOS 15

Apple just demoed all of the improvements that will be included in iOS 15, the next big upgrade for your iPhone. The new iOS version, which will be released in September, will have a bevy of new features such as SharePlay, Focus, Spotlight search for photographs, Live Text, a redesigned Weather UI, and more. However, the new capabilities planned to roll out to FaceTime may be the most significant upgrades to be made available on iOS.

FaceTime is receiving a new look in iOS 15 as a result of the increased reliance on video conferences that has been pushed upon us. One of these FaceTime capabilities is the ability to create a FaceTime link that can be sent by text message or email and can also be tied to a Calendar appointment.

With the launch of these FaceTime connection, Android and Windows users will be able to join FaceTime calls.

How to Create a FaceTime Link in Calendar on your iPhone and iPad

Before you try to create a FaceTime link using your iPhone or iPad’s Calendar app, keep in mind that this new functionality is only accessible on iOS 15.

Note: As of today (June 8, 2021), you can only use the functionality if you have the iOS 15 Developer Beta, which isn’t yet available to the general public, but should be shortly when Apple releases public betas for iOS 15.

We advise avoiding installing beta builds of iOS on your primary iPhone since bugs and software incompatibilities may cause problems with your device’s day-to-day operations.

If you manage to obtain iOS 15 on your iPhone, you can make a FaceTime Link in Calendar by following these steps. To do so, open your iPhone’s Calendar app and select the ‘+’ icon in the upper right corner to add a new event.

Your device will display a ‘New Event’ screen as a result of this action. Fill in the uppermost text field with a title for your event. You may now proceed to create a FaceTime link by tapping the “Location or Video Call” button directly below it.

You will now be taken to a new screen. Here, tap on the ‘FaceTime’ option under ‘Video Call’.

FaceTime will create an upcoming call and attach it to your Calendar event as soon as you do so. If everything went well, the ‘FaceTime’ label should appear beneath your event title in the Calendar app..

In case, Calendar doesn’t add a FaceTime link…

As expected, there are a slew of issues in iOS 15, which is still in Developer Beta. This is why you may not be able to add a link to a FaceTime call directly from a Calendar event in some cases. In these cases, you’ll have to manually add a FaceTime connect. To do so, open the FaceTime app on iOS and look under the ‘Upcoming’ area for the most recent ‘FaceTime Link.’ If you don’t see one, you’ll have to create one by tapping the top-right “Create Link” button.

If a recent ‘FaceTime Link’ appears in the ‘Upcoming’ section, tap the I icon next to it.

On the next ‘FaceTime Link’ screen, select the ‘Share Link’ option.

When the Share Menu appears, tap on the ‘Copy’ option.

When the FaceTime link is copied onto your clipboard, go to the ‘Location or Video Call’ option inside the ‘New Event’ screen.

The FaceTime Link you copied can then be pasted into the ‘Enter Location or Video Call’ search form at the top. To do so, tap and hold the search area, then press the ‘Paste’ option that appears when it appears.

When this link is pasted, tap on the ‘FaceTime’ option which will now carry the link actual link to the video call.

The Calendar event should now include the FaceTime Link at the top.

After you have added a FaceTime link to the Calendar event, you can edit other event details on the screen like meeting start and end time, add invitees, alerts, attachments, other URLs, and notes as required.

Once you have added all the relevant details for the event, you can tap on the ‘Add’ button (or ‘Done’ button if you’re editing an existing event on Calendar) at the top right corner.

When you successfully create an event on Calendar with a FaceTime link, a FaceTime label should appear inside the Event Details page once the event has been created.

You can join the FaceTime call directly from this screen by selecting ‘Join’, or you may share a link to the call by tapping the Share icon beside it.

That’s all there is to it when it comes to making a FaceTime Link in the iOS Calendar app.

How to get Android and Windows users to join your FaceTime call?

That’s a lot easier now. Share the link to your FaceTime call with them in any way you like. Sending them the link by text message, chat, or DM is all ok. To join your call, Android and Windows users simply need to click on the FaceTime link. Because there isn’t a FaceTime app for Android or Windows, they’ll have to use a web browser to join the call – both Chrome and Safari are supported.

You can, of course, use this link to invite any of your friends who use an Apple device, such as an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
